Access to the French Oceanographic Fleet 2027

Following the success of the first call launched in 2023, Amundsen Science and Ifremer are pleased to launch the second call for proposals under the Amundsen–Ifremer Ship-Time Exchange Agreement.

This program enables Canadian and international research teams to access ship time aboard three of the French Oceanographic Fleet’s flagship vessels:
Pourquoi Pas ?  → L’Atalante → Thalassa

Through this bilateral collaboration, researchers can pursue multidisciplinary oceanographic, geoscientific, and ecological studies using the state-of-the-art facilities of the French fleet. The vessels are equipped with modern wet and dry laboratories, deep-sea winches and coring systems, CTD-rosette hydrographic instrumentation, advanced sonar and acoustic arrays, and infrastructure supporting ROV, AUV, and mooring operations.

Applications are reviewed jointly by Amundsen Science and Ifremer according to scientific excellence, feasibility, and complementarity with existing expeditions. The process ensures optimal coordination of field logistics and promotes international collaboration across disciplines.

  • Deadline for submission: 15 November 2025
  • Target field seasons: 2027 – 2028
