2009 Expedition

The CCGS Amundsen circumnavigated the North American continent in 2009 as part of a five-month research voyage to the Canadian Arctic. Sailing through the Panama Canal and entering the Arctic Ocean through Bering Strait allowed the vessel to reach its study area in the Beaufort Sea on July 13th, almost one month sooner than by sailing via its usual eastern route through the Northwest Passage.
