About Amundsen Science
Amundsen Science is the non-profit organization responsible for the management of the scientific mandate of the research icebreaker CCGS Amundsen, Canada’s only icebreaker equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities to support multidisciplinary studies. The Amundsen is accessible to Canadian academics, indigenous researchers, and their partners from government, the private sector and other countries. The ship’s pool of specialized equipment includes scientific systems and portable laboratories that can accommodate the needs of physical, chemical, and biological oceanographers, marine geologists, geomorphologists, geographers, as well as social and medical scientists.
Job Opportunity
Amundsen Science is seeking a social media contractual or intern to support the development and coordination of communication strategies and activities. This position will bring you to work on varied projects with an enthusiastic team of professionals, technicians, students, researchers, and Northern residents and communities, all with a vested interest in the Arctic research.
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Communications Manager and in close collaboration with other team members, the position will entail the following tasks and responsibilities:
- Assist in developing and implementing social media strategies to increase brand awareness and engagement;
- Coordinate and schedule weekly social media posts across multiple platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.);
- Create engaging and scientific content, including graphics, photos, and videos for social media;
- Monitor social media trends and participate in relevant conversations and online communities;
- Analyze social media metrics to track engagement and growth, providing recommendations for improvement;
- Collaborate with the communication team to align social media efforts with overall Amundsen Science activities;
- Stay up-to-date with the latest social media trends, tools, and best practices;
- Support the communication team with other related tasks.
Qualifications and Skills
- Currently enrolled or have completed in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Marketing, Communications, or a related field;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and French;
- Familiarity with major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Youtube) and their best practices;
- Creative mindset with an eye for design and attention to detail;
- Strong organizational and time-management skills;
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
- Passion for social media and scientific communication;
- Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with the administrative team, researchers, partner organizations and external consultants;
- Strong computer proficiency using MS Office applications;
- Ability to work with Adobe Creative Cloud programs will be an asset;
- Knowledge and familiarity with the academic research environment, ideally related to marine science or Arctic research;
- Knowledge of Northern environmental ethics for working with Indigenous communities.
Workplace
Amundsen Science is based out of Université Laval in Quebec City, Canada. Teleworking possible (to be discussed). The possibility of boarding the CCGS Amundsen for a 20-day mission in October 2025 may be possible, depending on aptitude and interest.
Work Conditions
- Salary to be discussed and determined based on experience.
- Duration: Full time from May 2025 to August 2025, with a possibility to extent until October 2025.
